Depression

Sadness is a natural reaction to loss, a reflection of our appreciation for life’s rewards. Depression, however, is different from sadness.

A depressed mood is more complex and may not resolve itself easily over time. Depression is uniquely personal in how it feels and how intense it can be.

Mild depression might feel like a low-grade fever: as consistent low energy, unhappiness or disconnection. At moderate to high levels, depression may feel like a pervasive sense of worthlessness or hopelessness about the future. It can be difficult to get out of bed in the morning or complete simple tasks.

Depression is not an expression of a personal flaw or weakness. We don’t know exactly why people become depressed but we do know that thought patterns and self-defeating beliefs can trigger painful feelings of inferiority and despair. Fortunately, cognitive behavioral therapy helps people uncover and challenge the core beliefs and thoughts that contribute to feelings of depression and low self-esteem. When recovery is achieved, our therapists will provide you with relapse prevention tools to help you maintain your recovery long term.Whether it is a case of the blues that you can’t shake or a more serious clinical depression, we will work with you compassionately and collaboratively so you can start enjoying your life again.
